Church of the Resurrection
Parish Discernment Process
Nominations: The discernment process actually begins with the parish. The parish members are invited to call forth those individuals who they identify as possessing leadership gifts. Each parishioner will have the opportunity to recommend themselves or a person that they believe possess qualities that would provide positive leadership. There will be a box available in the gathering space to place the names of those you would like to recommend.
Invitations Each individual identified is notified and invited to a meeting. Those that attend are then given an opportunity to be attentive to the Spirit's prompting in their life through group dialog and individual expression. The nominee begins the reflection process at home and has one week to make a choice of whether to attend the meeting.
Discernment meeting: The pastor will talk more specifically about the positions, discuss expectations, and what the commitment involves. At the informational meetings, everyone who has been invited will go through a process to help determine if they are being called to a leadership position at Resurrection parish. This process allows just enough reflection time for each person to consider their gifts and whether the tasks and time involved can be balanced with their other responsibilities. Near the end of the time gathered they again have the opportunity to put forth their name for consideration. Names will be selected from those who, through discernment, desire to serve Resurrection parish in leadership ministry.
