Church of the Resurrection
Community Food Response
Description of Activity:
Community Food Response, Inc. (CFR) is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1993 to meet the growing need of families to have a supplemental source of food. This program focuses on "rescuing" food from 19 different hospitals, hotels, restaurants, schools, and grocery stores that would normally be discarded at the end of the day and getting the food into the hands of individuals and families that need it.

Meeting Times: History of Group:
The first monday of each month: 1-3 pm for food pickup, 4:30-6:30 pm for distribution of food. Every other Wednesday, the hospital route pick up is 1-3 pm. This is our 16th year with about 95 tons of food collected that would otherwise be in a landfill.
Volunteer Requirements: Length of Commitment:
This service action requires a lot of physical activity and hard work, combined with an opportunity for socializing while working. We need vans or trucks for pick-up and a helper to help load 12-16 coolers on the hospital route. The Monday route is usually 2-4 coolers as well as boxes of milk and bread. You can volunteer once or several times each year.
How food is Distributed:
Food is distributed from Bethel Lutheran Church (across from the Kmart.) Persons in need of food can register and pick up food from 5-6:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. They receive enough packaged food for one meal that they can reheat in their own home.
