What does Expanding Horizons Look Like?
Expanding Horizons are interactive stations set up in the Great Hall. A variety of media are used to convey basic information, assist in the experience of the mysteries of our faith, and open our eyes to intriguing and exciting aspects of faith.
Before entering the Great Hall, participants sign in and pick up a Guidebook which provides the layout and gives basic directions. As one moves through the display area, poster boards may prompt the reader with intriguing questions. Information may be presented in a variety of ways such as instructional booklets and display cards for the reader or photographs and art work arranged museum style for the visual learner. Music, poetry or storytelling may be presented via CD, or DVD. Video programs may offer recognized theologians, historical background or the necessary imagery to convey difficult faith ideas and concepts.
Journal booklets are available in strategic locations throughout the Great Hall for jotting down questions for Father Tom. Opportunities for community conversation will be available throughout the centers for sharing and reflecting as we journey together. A resource table showcases selected books and handouts that speak to the topic.

Why is Resurrection doing Expanding Horizons?
Expanding Horizons developed in response to needs expressed in the Generations of Faith evaluations. Parishioners were saying, "I don’t like sharing my faith with others because I feel I don’t know enough." "The Generations of Faith Parish Nights do not fit with our household schedule; we need more flexibility." "I’m uncomfortable in a large group setting." "Parish Night alone does not provide enough time to adequately teach and experience the topic." We will continue to evaluate and form GOF in response to parish needs.
When is Expanding Horizons offered?
It is offered three times a year, roughly 3 months apart. The Catholic theology explored supports the themes of Parish Night and Going Deeper sessions and allows for greater understanding of our Catholic faith. It is our hope that this exposure will stimulate thought and prayer and facilitate a comfort level for sharing faith with others, including family and friends.
Expanding Horizons will be presented in the Great Hall for 10 days. Parishioners can come anytime between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. This is a self-guided experience allowing participants to move at their own pace, and engage in learning with a spouse, child, friend, neighbor, or individually. There are three levels of activities: Adults (grades 10 and older), Youth (Grades 5-9), and Children (Grades 1-4). While the stations for children are specifically designed for Parent/Child learning, all levels are open to any parishioner. You may choose the one that’s right for you.
Can't Make it during the 10-day period?
To accommodate those who cannot attend during the 10 days, we will consolidate some of the the displays in the Gathering Space. Please make an effort to look over the information. We also post much of the information on our website so you can read it at your leisure.
